Baltimore, MD – January 16, 2026 – The Baltimore Convention Center has commenced the year by earning Gold Level Certification through the
Events Industry Council (EIC) Sustainable Events Standards, recognizing the venue’s continued commitment to environmental management, social responsibility, and operational sustainability within the hospitality industry.
In 2025, the BCC earned Silver Level Certification and has since worked diligently to advance its sustainability initiatives. To support these efforts, staff across departments formed a Green Team Committee to support projects and improvements led by Director of Operations, Tyler DeBella. The organization also hired its first-ever Sustainability Fellow, Abigail Frey, who collaborated closely with the Green Team to develop innovative policies, programs, and community engagement.
The Sustainable Event Standards specify performance criteria in areas including organizational management; marketing; communications and engagement; climate action; materials and circularity; supply chain management; diversity, equity, and inclusion; accessibility; and social impact.
Over the past year, the Baltimore Convention Center has updated its Environmental Purchasing Policy, maintained its long-standing GBAC accreditation, increased waste diversion rates, designed a mobile sensory space, and participated in community environmental initiatives—including the Mayor’s Annual Fall Clean-Up, iNaturalist’s BioBlitz community science event, and other local efforts. Additionally, the organization actively solicits client and employee feedback through channels such as event surveys, training sessions, and educational workshops to inform and strengthen its sustainability practices.
“This certification reflects how deeply sustainability is embedded into the Baltimore Convention Center’s operations and culture,” said Mac Campbell, Executive Director, CVE of the Baltimore Convention Center. “Building on last year’s achievement, our team has continued to make meaningful investments in sustainable practices that benefit our guests, our partners, and the broader Baltimore community.”
The Baltimore Convention Center continues to pursue meaningful progress toward its long-term sustainability goals while offering clients, exhibitors, and attendees a more environmentally responsible event experience in Charm City.
