BCC Celebrated for Downtown Impact and Artistic Collaboration

Baltimore, MD (November 20, 2025) - Earlier this month, the Baltimore Convention Center’s Executive Director, Mac Campbell, CVE, was honored with Downtown Partnership’s 2025 Placemaking Impact Award alongside local artists Jaz and Saba, highlighting their collaboration in bringing Brush Mural Fest to the facility. Together, they transformed the Center’s exterior with ten vibrant murals celebrating Baltimore’s culture, creativity, and community.

The Baltimore Convention Center’s mission is to fuel the region’s economy through events, employment, and tourism. Since returning to Baltimore, Campbell and his team have expanded that mission by enhancing downtown’s landscape through art and community partnerships. Last fall, Brush Mural Fest and the BCC unveiled the Pratt Street Mural Strip, a striking landmark featuring works by twenty Baltimore-based artists. Each mural connects seamlessly to the next while telling individual stories that reflect the city’s culture, history, and pride.

In addition to Brush Mural Fest, the organization has been recognized for its broader public art initiatives, including its collaboration with the Birdland Mural Series powered by PNC to bring a bold, abstract installation to the venue’s Howard Street exterior. Created by Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) graduates Jessie Unterhalter and Katey Truhn, the large-scale mural reflects the city’s energy, enthusiasm, and pride. Building on this momentum, the BCC is continuing to partner with city agencies to bring even more art to the building—further transforming the space and contributing to a more welcoming and creative downtown.

Downtown Partnership of Baltimore’s Placemaking Impact Award recognizes Saba and Jaz’s artistic leadership and contributions across Charm City, as well as the Convention Center’s commitment to revitalizing downtown and uplifting nearby businesses by creating a more welcoming and visually engaging environment for residents and visitors alike.

This recognition follows a series of national accolades for the BCC. Earlier this year, the facility earned Northstar Meetings Group’s Best Convention Center – Northeast Gold Medal and was named one of Exhibitor Magazine’s Centers of Excellence for 2025. Both awards highlight the Center’s continued dedication to elevating the guest experience—not only through art and atmosphere, but also through enhanced ADA accessibility initiatives that ensure the space is inclusive, comfortable, and welcoming for all.

Mac Campbell accepted the award during this year’s Downtown Partnership of Baltimore Annual Meeting, joining other community leaders recognized for their positive impact on the city.
